For episode 24 of their podcast the Adventures of Cheap Beer, the trio of Mumbai quarter bar-reviewing tipplers Karan Agarwal, Siddhant Mehta and Suyash Barve visited Chakala dive Navik. Their guest this time is Suprateek Chatterjee, a musician and the entertainment editor at Huffington Post India who recently wrote a piece calling out actor-singer Farhan Akthar. In addition to reviewing the bar, the quartet spend some time analysing Akhtar’s 2001 Hindi film Dil Chahta Hai and the career of one of its stars Saif Ali Khan, who Chatterjee does a fine job of mimicking. Here are five things we learned about Navik from the episode.
1. There’s a lift inside the Western Express metro station that opens almost directly in front of the bar.
2. The alcohol is among the cheapest in the city.
3. The food, from the chicken crispy to the prawns Koliwada, was perhaps the worst they’ve tried so far at a dive.
4. It is not at all female-friendly.
5. It has a resident cat.
