In the crossover episode that nobody asked for, the folks behind dive bar reviewing podcast the Adventures of Cheap Beer, Karan Agarwal, Siddhant Mehta and Suyash Barve, invited the founders of this site and the hosts of The Paodcast, Purva Mehra, Pronoti Datta and Amit Gurbaxani, to be their guests for a review of Andheri bar Shankari. Among the things we learned about ourselves during the recording, for which we went straight from the bar to the studio, were that some of us turn really loud and some of us giggle uncontrollably when placed in front of a mic while under the influence. Here are five things we learned about the bar from the episode:
1. Shankari is situated behind a tree on JVLR, that is Juhu-Versova Link Road, which is not to be confused with Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road.
2. It’s among the cheapest dives in the city. Here, a quarter of Old Monk is priced at Rs200 in the AC section, a whole Rs30 less than the average of Rs230.
3. Among the many tasty dishes are the Shankari Special Tandoori, which is chicken rubbed with green chutney; Chicken Fingers, which are deep-fried nuggets coated in a rawa batter; and the excellent cheese garlic naan that has “the perfect cheese to garlic ratio”.
4. Some of the wait staff wear Mickey Mouse ties.
5. It has sculptural wall art depicting a horse racing with swans.
