On the twelfth episode of The Adventures of Cheap Beer, podcasters Karan Agarwal, Suyash Barve and Siddhant Mehta talk about celebrating Mehta’s birthday at The Versova Shack, a month-old establishment in Andheri that turned out to be the worst bar they’ve visited so far. Among the things they discuss are the poor service at the al fresco spot, the strange decor and, in the spirit of randomness that pervades their podcast, the methi that is grown in Versova. Mehta tells us more about the podcast:
“Versova isn’t my first choice when it comes to cheap bars but there has been a surge of new places opening over there. The Versova Shack seemed like an odd place from the outset – a themed outdoor bar with low prices that is appealing to a glamorous and upwardly-mobile clientele. We disliked it because it lacked any kind of soul or identity. Cheap bars can have expensive furnishings and lofty ideals but when one can’t order half the menu because everything is unavailable or because the staff don’t understand basic instructions, there is a problem. Pretension does not mix well with alcohol and it’s hard to imagine drinking in a bar decorated with dupattas and sequins.”
