
Genuine Broaster Chicken.
• Genuine Broaster Chicken, the US-based restaurant chain, is slated to open its first outpost in India, in Andheri on Wednesday, August 10. The brand has patented a pressure-fried technique of cooking chicken, which involves less oil than regular fried chicken. Restaurateur and TV chef Harpal Singh Sokhi, who owns The Funjabi Tadka chain of restaurants, will serve as the executive chef. Styled like an American diner, the first GBC outlet will serve a range of fried chicken dishes such as the signature Genuine Broaster chicken wings; Hot Masala Chicken; Happy Fried Chicken (a spicy variant served with curry mango jalapeño dip) and cheese and chicken pillows. The menu will also feature fusion items such as Begum fries with chicken kheema; lamb rogan josh burger; penne makhni; ghotala khichdi; chocolate samosa with mango ice cream; and gulkhand muffin. • Bandra is slated to get a new quick service North Indian joint called Butter Chicken Factory on Monday, August 15. In addition to staples such as butter chicken and dal makhani, the restaurant will serve tandoor items. Open daily, from 11am to 2am. • A year after they launched their bakery in Worli, Ellipsis, the modern American restaurant in Colaba, will open a second outlet in Bandra on Thursday, August 11. The menu of cakes, pies, cookies, cupcakes, breads and dips is the same across both branches. The selection includes cinnamon swirl bread; pretzel sticks; cream cheese bagel; whoopie pie; Sriracha cheddar biscuits; Nutella cookies; cookie dough cupcake; cheesecake pie; and marshmallow jar. The Bandra branch will offer a few additional desserts such as lemon meringue; matcha creme brûlée; and chlorophyll yoghurt. Open daily, from 8am to 10pm. • Thalassa, the popular Greek restaurant in Goa, is slated to open in Mumbai, in Khar, in September. The city first got a taste of the restaurant in September 2013 (until July 2014), when it opened as a pop-up at the now-shuttered outpost of Olive Bar & Kitchen in Mahalaxmi. Here, Thalassa will replace Yellow Bar All Day, which had a brief run from February to June this year. The menu will have signature dishes such as tirokafteri (a feta cheese dip); chicken souvlaki; beef gyros; and lamb moussaka and new items exclusive to Mumbai. • The twelfth outpost of The Irish House chain of pubs will open in Thane, on Friday, August 12. On the opening weekend, from Friday through Sunday, they will have a buy-one-get-one-free offer on the entire bar menu. The food and alcohol menus are the same across the chain, which also has outposts in Pune, Kolkata and Bangalore. Open daily, from noon to 1am.
