If you live in the Pedder Road-Breach Candy-Nepean Sea Road area, you will be excited by the news that on Thursday, August 25, popular Pune microbrewery Doolally finally opened its taproom in Kemps Corner. The bar is a much needed addition to the area because the eating and drinking options are few and far between in these neighbourhoods. Food-wise, choices are limited to a handful of cafes (Theobroma, Moshe’s at the Crossword bookstore) and a few QSRs (from long-running snack institutions such as sandwich purveyor The Right Place to relative newcomers like Wok Express and Ministry of Salads). To get a drink, your picks range from the lounge at The Shalimar Hotel to the loud and crowded environs of The Bombay Bronx and Doppio, bars that occupy a characterless glass-fronted parking lot. Of course, there’s The Ghetto but a bit of variety is always welcome.
Those whose idea of a fun night out is sitting back and sipping on a cold brew or a few will thus celebrate the arrival of Doolally. The taps at the new branch are currently filled with no less than eight of their house beers: the hefeweizen, apple cider, mango cider, oatmeal stout, abbey blonde, Biere de Garde, their first-ever Belgian dubbel and our personal favourite, the smoky, bacon-y rauchbier. The food menu is the same across the outposts as is the pet-friendly policy. Like the other Doolally taprooms in Andheri and Bandra, Kemps Corner opens at 7am, which means you can get a beer with your breakfast.
