A slew of concept restaurants and bars, tea salons and brewpubs are among the places slated to open in Mumbai over the next 12 months. Here’s a peek at 20 new establishments and multiple new branches.
A. D. Singh’s new venture

A. D. Singh, the restaurateur behind the nation-wide Olive Bar and Kitchen and SodaBottleOpenerwala chains, will unveil a Japanese restaurant in Bandra Kurla Complex in March.
Amanzi

A poolside all-day bar that will offer European fare, tiki cocktails and molecular tipples, Amanzi will be located within C’est La Vie, the Bandra club that also houses a branch of Delhi pub The Junkyard Cafe.
Burn

Where: Bandra Kurla Complex
Beluga Hospitality, a new F&B company, will give the city a classic American diner called Burn that will open in Bandra Kurla Complex. The same folks will also launch a nightclub called Matahaari in Atria Mall in Worli this weekend.
Candy and Green

A casual-dining venture by first-time restaurateur Shraddha Bhansali, Candy and Green will offer vegetarian ‘global cuisine’ with a focus on seasonal ingredients across the food and cocktails.
Desserts of the World

This all-day dessert cafe, from Sahib Hospitality that owns the 29 chain of vegetarian restaurants, will serve eggless desserts from around the globe.
Effingut Brewerkz

The two-year-old brewpub, which has two branches in Pune, is slated to open in Mumbai towards the end of this year. As in Pune, they will serve a multi-cuisine menu and a minimum of eight beers on tap, including their popular cider and braggot, which is their winter special.
General Singh’s Residence

Restaurateur Abhayraj Kohli who runs Dadar bar MRP and restaurant chain Grandmama’s Cafe will launch a tapas bar called General Singh’s Residence, which will serve regional Indian nosh with a modern twist.
Hemant Oberoi’s next venture

The former executive chef of the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Colaba is working on a stand-alone fine-dining restaurant that will serve some of his signature dishes.
Mango Tree London.
Mango Tree

London-headquartered Thai restaurant Mango Tree is headed to Juhu where it will open inside the Horizon Hotel. Here the casual-dining chain, with outposts in Dubai and Hong Kong, will be a 3,600 square feet eatery designed by Blacksheep, the popular UK firm that has kitted out Wagamama, Mandarin Oriental, Puro and Jamie’s Italian in London.
Pravas

The latest venture by the folks behind Lower Parel gaming venue Smaaash, Pravas will be a Gujarati bar and kitchen that will serve homestyle vegetarian food with alcohol. The restaurant in Kamala Mills will be fashioned after the dining compartment of a train.
Rodeo Drive

A Dubai export, American bar and grill Rodeo Drive is being brought to Mumbai by the owners of Opa Bar and Cafe. Housed within the Competent Hotel in Andheri East, Rodeo Drive will be stocked with drinking games and will feature a rodeo rink with a mechanical bull.
Ryan and Keenan Tham’s new venture

Restaurateur siblings Ryan and Keenan Tham, who helm Koko in Lower Parel and The Good Wife in Bandra Kurla Complex, are working on a new poolside bar inside Juhu’s Hotel Sea Princess where they also co-manage the nightclub Trilogy.
Shizusan

The three-storey restaurant slated to open inside Phoenix Mills this month aims to be a one-stop destination for all your South-East Asian food cravings. Helmed by Bellona Hospitality, which runs 212 All Good in the mall and a clutch of bars and restaurants at Phoenix MarketCity in Kurla, Shizusan will have a bar with an extensive selection of sake, soju, Japanese whisky and Asian cocktails; a “dim sum studio”; and a sushi bar spread across the three levels. The menu will offer street food specials including ramen, curries and baos from China, Japan, Vietnam, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines.
Tasse De The

Jiten Sheth, a certified tea blender from the city, is working on giving Mumbai this French and Victorian-style tea salon. Tasse de The, which is French for a cup of tea, will serve over 100 varieties of the stuff including Sheth’s own blends, along with sweet and savoury treats.
Toast & Tonic

After launching in Bangalore last year, restaurateur A. D. Singh and chef Manu Chandra will bring their East Village-inspired restaurant and bar Toast & Tonic to Bandra West in March. They’ve billed it as an international restaurant as the menu has French, Asian, Italian, American and Latin American influences. The eclectic line-up of dishes includes bajra and ricotta gnudi; smoked Cochin mackerel on toast; chilli tossed tuna poke bowl; Swedish beef meatballs; Naga chilli chicken wings; and gin marinated duck buns. The bar will make its own flavoured tonics such as Flower Power (jasmine tea, elderflower and grapefruit tonic); spiced vanilla tonic; and rose petal and cucumber tonic and will serve an extensive selection of gin cocktails.
Tamasha

Delhi’s multi-cuisine bar and restaurant Tamasha is slated to launch in Worli this month. The DJs will play electronic dance music and the kitchen will serve signature dishes such as whisky infused dal makhani and paneer 65 bao.
The Stables

Equestrian-themed bar The Stables is among the handful of imports headed Mumbai’s way this year. The concept pub from Dubai, which is being set up by the owners of Opa Bar and Cafe, is slated to open inside Competent Hotel in Andheri East. Fashioned in wood and bronze with vintage chandeliers, the bar will host gigs and offer a menu of savoury pies, sliders, burgers, pizzas and pasta.
Ustaadi

The folks that run the Zaffran chain of North Indian restaurants, will open Ustaadi, a multi-cuisine joint in Crawford Market this month. Ustaadi will replace the flagship outpost of Zaffran, which has branches in Lower Parel and Bandra.
Verbena

Also from the owners of Smaaash, Verbena will be a 10,000 square feet rooftop brewpub that will also boast a wine cellar and a terrace garden, and serve as a gig venue.
Wedgwood

Sandwiches with crusts cut-off, scones with Devonshire cream and ornate crockery is what you can expect at the traditional English tea lounge scheduled to open at the Horizon Hotel in Juhu. London, Hong Kong and Los Angeles are home to outposts of the tea salon owned by crockery brand Wedgwood. In Mumbai, the all-day cafe will occupy 2,700 square feet and serve wine in addition to 50 varieties of tea. Here, they will also retail crockery and premium teas.

The second outpost of the all-day fusion Indian restaurant and bar in Kala Ghoda is scheduled to open in Bandra this month. The new branch will offer a breakfast menu of crepes, waffles and pancakes and new dishes such as mac n cheese hot dog; pork vindaloo bao; and cotton candy tower.
1441 Pizzeria

Multiple outposts of the pizza chain are slated to open across Mumbai in Peddar Road, Bandra West, Lower Parel, Juhu and Navi Mumbai over the course of the next 12 months. The chain, which specialises in wood-fired pies, allows you to customise pizzas with various sauces and toppings.
Doolally Taproom

The fourth taproom from the Pune microbrewery is scheduled to open in the heart of Colaba.
La Folie Lab

Kamala Mills Compound will get an outpost of La Folie Lab, the cafe arm of the La Folie patisserie chain. Like the Bandra flagship, the new branch will serve breakfast all-day, takeaway and plated desserts, and coffee brewed using various techniques. Menu highlights will include avocado tartine; croissant sandwiches; and mille-feuille.
Papacream

The nitro ice cream parlour with outposts in Churchgate and Jogeshwari will expand to Juhu.
Pa Pa Ya

Massive Restaurants, which owns Masala Library, MasalaBar and Farzi Cafe, will open branches of Pa Pa Ya, its fusion South East-Asian restaurant in Lower Parel, in Bandra Kurla Complex and Colaba.
Sodabottleopenerwala

The third and fourth outposts of A.D. Singh’s Parsi restaurant chain inspired by Irani cafes are scheduled to open in Powai and Lower Parel in the first and second quarter of the year respectively.
The Bar Stock Exchange

Budget-conscious tipplers can look forward to two new branches of the price-friendly bar chain in Malad and Borivali that will be the ninth and tenth outlets of The Bar Stock Exchange in the city respectively.
The Fatty Bao

The popular East-Asian chain owned by A. D. Singh and Manu Chandra didn’t branch out to south and central Mumbai last year as scheduled. This year, they intend to open three outposts, starting with Lower Parel in February, Powai in March and Andheri West in the second quarter.
