In addition to supplying the suburb’s meat eaters with buff tenderloin, Yorkshire pork, Goan choriz and veal mince, Bandra’s most popular butcher Joseph Cold Storage also runs a perennially-busy delivery and takeaway kitchen. Joseph’s Tandoori Kitchen, which is a five-minute walk from the cold storage, offers a North Indian menu spanning tikkas, kebabs, tikka rolls, curries and biryanis. Our pick of their extensive and mostly excellent selection of dishes is the tandoori chicken, which trumps the versions served at such Bandra institutions as Pal’s Fish Corner, Mini Punjab, Khane Khas and Kareem’s, all of which are equally well-known for the preparation.
Smeared with a mildly pungent house-made tandoori rub, Joseph’s TC is deliciously succulent. A half portion comprises four fleshy cuts of the bird, including a thigh and a leg; a full portion is made up of eight pieces. The meat, which is evenly coated with the tandoori masala, falls off the bone. They put in a little extra cooked masala in the container that you can mop up with a roomali roti. The meat is accompanied by a stellar pudina chutney that’s spiked with sugar, but the chicken tastes best on its own, with a dash of lime at the most. Rs180 for a half portion and Rs320 for a full portion (including taxes).
