Delhi’s Indian Accent is justifiably moving up the ranks on the annual survey.
The annual Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list for 2016 was released on Monday, February 29. The survey, which is carried out by international publishing house William Reed Business Media, is led by Gaggan Anand’s Gaggan in Bangkok for the second consecutive year. The list has few surprises, at least for diners in India. At No.9, Delhi’s Indian Accent, which opened in New York City last month, is (not surprisingly) the highest ranked of three Indian establishments. The others are Wasabi by Morimoto, the Japanese fine-dining joint at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel in Mumbai, at No.44 and Delhi institution Bukhara at the ITC Maurya Hotel, at No.45. All three also appeared on the 2015 and 2014 rosters, though Indian Accent is the only Indian restaurant to have featured on Asia’s 50 Best every year since the inaugural 2013 round-up when as many as seven eateries from the country made the cut. It has made a steady Indian ascent (yes we went there) from No.41 to No.29 to No.22 to No.9. Here’s how Delhi and Mumbai stack up with other cities in the continent this time around:
Singapore 10
Hong Kong 9
Tokyo 7
Bangkok 4
Seoul 3
Shanghai 3
Colombo 2
Delhi 2
Bali 1
Fukuoka 1
Kyoto 1
Macau 1

Mumbai 1
