New Restaurants and Bars: Tag The GourmArt Kitchen in Lower Parel, Playboy Club in Worli

Tag The GourmArt Kitchen.

• Tag The GourmArt Kitchen is slated to open in Lower Parel today, Tuesday, December 6. The all-day vegetarian restaurant, housed within The Amateur Gallery (TAG), is helmed by TV chef and author Ranveer Brar. The signature dishes include mock butter chicken ravioli with kale saag; edamame and wasabi hummus; miso burrata with green tomato; nachni noodle laksa; and Brie brûlée with berry biscuit. Door No.1, a retro pub, opened in Bandra on Friday, December 2. Like the Social chain of bars, the split-level Door No.1 also doubles up as a co-working space by day. Their cocktail menu features spiked chocolate milkshake (with rum and Kahlua); lemongrass and ginger martini; kiwi margarita; and gin fizz (with green tea and mint). The fusion food menu includes dishes such as butter chakali with sambhar; masala rice with crushed papad; pao bhaji Maggi; Kerala calamari with curry leaves and ginger mayonnaise; Goan sausage and pao; tuna melt sandwich; and rajma with rice. • Bandra has a New York-inspired restaurant called It Happened in New York, which was launched on Monday, December 5. The venture is by the husband and wife duo of Manashwi and Aastha Gupta, first-time restaurateurs who were previously in the carpet export business. It Happened In New York is spread over 2,700 square feet across three floors. The contemporary American menu lists moringa and caramel-flavoured popped corn; jackfruit tacos; spicy chicken wings; buckwheat pancakes with beetroot and carrot slaw; beef bulgogi banh mi; Korean fried chicken; New England lobster roll; key lime pie; milk and honey; and black rice pudding. The bar serves craft concoctions such as the Santana Sour (with Tequila, pink grapefruit, fresh pineapple juice, Cointreau and cucumber syrup); Vedic Cobbler (white rum, basil and bitters); and Wollman Rink Toddy (brandy, ginger, apple juice, star anise, clove and cinnamon). • The second outpost of Mr. Baozi, the South-East Asian gastropub by Corum Hospitality, the folks behind The Bar Stock Exchange, opened in Juhu on Monday, November 28. The menu at the 5,000 square feet branch is the same as at the Lower Parel flagship. Until Thursday, December 8, the chain will retail 30ml pours of Black Label whisky at Rs49 per pour and a pint of Kingfisher at a flat Rs2. Open daily, from noon to 4pm and from 6.30pm to 1am. • The folks behind Aka, the European fine-dining restaurant in Worli, will launch Aka Bistro, an all-day cafe in Kala Ghoda on Wednesday, December 7. Designed by The Bus Ride studio, the split-level restaurant will house an exhibition space for Love From India, the apparel label by restaurant owners Aditya and Alok Agrawal. The ‘world cuisine’ menu will offer green beans and feta salad; chicken yakitori; fish tacos with water chestnuts; seafood paella; croque monsieur; mushroom and goat cheese crepe; flourless chocolate orange cake; and creme brûlée with coconut and ginger ice cream. • Worli is now home to the Playboy Club, a nightclub by PB Lifestyle, the exclusive franchisee for the US-based Playboy Enterprises in India. The chain of nightclubs was first launched here in Hyderabad in 2014. In Mumbai, the cocktail menu features the Blonde Bunny (Baileys, cream and banana); Frisky Rabbit (mulberry jam, vodka and edible flowers); Rich and Famous (single malt, hazelnut syrup and smoked apple); and Black Buck (Black Label whisky, Kahlua and Coke). The largely South-East Asian menu lists radish and carrot cakes; spicy har gau dumplings; black pepper lamb roll; asparagus tempura maki; spicy tuna roll; and prawn satay. There’s also a selection of Indian and European dishes such as fish tikka; peri peri chicken flatbread; grilled sea bass; and lasagne. Open on Friday and Saturday, from 7pm to 1.30am. • Aurus, the seaside lounge in Juhu that shuttered in 2012, will be replaced by a Estella, a ‘modern Australian restaurant’ by Silver Beach Entertainment and Hospitality, which runs Silver Beach Cafe in Juhu and Radio Bar in Khar. Estella, which will open on Wednesday, December 7, has been designed by Sameep Padora, the architect behind the Lower Parel branch of Indigo Deli. The menu will include grilled Tasmanian scallops with miso honey cream and carrot foam; slow braised lamb shanks with beetroot relish; tiger prawn and scallop fettuccine in Burmese curry sauce; blueberry and lavender shortbread; and plum and frangipani tart. • Khar patisserie Deliciae, which recently moved out of Out of the Blue where it was housed for 12 years, will open as a stand-alone outlet in the suburb on Monday, December 12. In addition to pastries and whole cakes, they will also serve tea and coffee and a select menu of savoury finger foods. Open daily, from 10am to 11.30pm. Anarchy, a new nightclub, has opened in Andheri. The 2,300 square feet venue features a VIP section and will host EDM gigs. Their signature cocktails include the Disco Anarkali (Tequila, pomegranate and basil) and Tharki Martini (spiced rum, cumin and fresh cucumber). The multi-cuisine food menu offers fish diavola; chilli coriander noodles; and chicken taouk. Open daily, from 11am to 2am.
